Warren Hills DECA Club Raises Funds for the American Cancer Society

[Washington, NJ] - The Warren Hills DECA Club (WH DECA) used Krispy Kreme’s Fundraising Program to help raise over $1,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS). The mission of ACS is “to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families by ensuring everyone has the opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.”

Welcoming over 10 new members and a new advisor, WH DECA has 42 members this year that contributed to the fundraising efforts. These students have created a strong desire for competition but also community service. They not only raised $1,111 funds for ACS but have also participated in outreach programs like Stuff the Bus and Trunk or Treat.

ACS is the official New Jersey DECA State Community Service Project, emphasizing the desire for all DECA chapters to participate in community service. As WH DECA worked to raise funds for ACS, so did 13,000 members across 120 different schools in the state.

During November and December, WH DECA members tabled outside of the school cafeteria and visited local businesses, family, and friends to solicit sales for this important cause. Rather than profiting from the funds raised, the club put all the money to the purchase of doughnuts and ACS.

“Once I heard the state community service project was supporting the American Cancer Society, I knew our chapter had to participate since the non-profit is near and dear to my heart. Our student leadership team is awesome and made it happen- we exceeded our initial goal of raising $900 by over $200,” says the advisor, Ms. Christina Dock.
