Social Studies at Warren Hills

The social studies curriculum at Warren Hills "provides learners with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and perspectives needed to become active, informed, and contributing members of local, state, national, and global communities" (NJ Department of Education). The social studies curriculum and course sequence is an integral part of their preparation to thrive in their "life beyond Warren Hills". Students strengthen their abilities to analyze, understand, and think critically about information, the past, and the present in order to be ready to participate the world around them.

The curriculum is aligned to the 2020 New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Social Studies and is reflective of the vision of the district and the state department of education:

  • it is civic-minded, globally aware, and socially responsible;
  • exemplifies the fundamental values of democracy and human rights;
  • makes informed decisions about events based on inquiry and analysis;
  • considers multiple perspectives, values diversity, and promotes understanding;
  • recognizes the relationships among people, places, and resources as well as the implications of an interconnected global economy;
  • applies an understanding of critical media literacy skills when utilizing technology to learn and communicate;
  • discerns facts from falsehoods and critically analyzes information for validity and relevance.
